Bears Finish 5th in Bulldog Classic at Ft. Knox

The Butler golfers traveled to Lindsey Golf Course at Ft. Knox on Saturday to compete in the John Hardin Bulldog Classic.  The Bears improved 10 strokes as a team from their last invitational shoot 332, good enough for a 5th place finish.  The team was led by a career low round from Freshmen Dalton Blake who shot +7 79.  Other notables were Chase Wathen at 82, Josh Tingle at 84 and Jacob Bray rounded out the team with an 87.  Butler will next host rivals PRP and DeSales on Monday in a tri-match at Bobby Nichols GC at 3:00.

Butler Takes Out Manual to go to 3-0

The Bears took on JCPS rival Manual on Wednesday at Shawnee Golf Course. After a short rain delay, Butler came out on fire, shooting their best score of the season thus far, 154.  The squad was led by Senior Chase Wathen's round of 36.  Pair that up with Jacob Bray and Josh Tingle at 39 as well as Tanner Thompson and Dalton Blake's rounds of 40 and it was good enough for the 3rd win of the season. Butler moves to 3-0 on the season and will next compete in the Bulldog Classic Saturday 8:30 at Lindsey GC on Ft. Knox.

Bears Stun Male with Come From Behind Win

The Butler golfers stayed undefeated moving their record to 2-0 on Wednesday at Cherokee Golf Course against crosstown rival Male.  Trailing by 4 strokes waiting of scores from the third and final group, the Bears added a career best round of 41 from Sophomore Darren McCluskey which was enough to flip the script and win 170-172.  Medalists for the Bears were Sophomores Josh Tingle and Darren McCluskey shooting 41.  Butler will next face Eastern Monday at 3:30 at Shawnee Golf Course.

Bears Win Season Opener Over North Hardin

The Butler golf team travelled to Lincoln Trail Country Club on Monday and took on North Hardin in their opening match of 2014.  Missing some key players, the team did not disappoint.  Senior Jacob Bray led the way with his first ever medal round of +3 39.  Other notables on the Varsity were Freshmen Dalton Blake at 40 and Senior Tanner Thompson at 41.  The Bears won the Varsity team match 163-185.  In the JV match the Bears were also victorious winning 192-208.  This win moves the team record to 1-0 and they will next be in action Wednesday August 13th at Cherokee Golf Course against Male at 4:00.

Bears Falter in Season Opener at Heritage Hills

Butler kicked off their regular season at the Charger Open at Heritage Hill on Friday.  A field of 26 elite teams were a part of the event and the Bears struggled to a 12th place team finish with a score 342.  Once again, the squad was led by Senior Chase Wathen's round of +3 75 which was good enough for an 11th place finish.  Other notable scores were Freshmen Dalton Blake's 86, Tanner Thompson at 88 and Darren McCluskey at 93. The Bears will face off in their first match on Tuesday at Lincoln Trail again North Hardin.

Chase Wathen traveled to Heartland Golf Club on Saturday to compete as an individual in the Bruin Cup.  The 70 player field was chocked full of talent including multiple state qualifiers from 2013.  Wathen battled some tough breaks to fire a round of +3 75 with two double bogeys.  The score placed him in 6th overall.

In the exhibition season opener, the Bears competed in the annual Dixie Shootout against rivals PRP, DeSales and Holy Cross.  Senior Chase Wathen led the way for Butler winning the individual title with a round of 2-under 70. This win means that Wathen has become the 3-time consecutive reigning champion of the event.  The team finished 2nd to champion Holy Cross by 10 strokes shooting a team score of 321.  The Bears used scores from first-time competitors Senior Austin Davis (85) and Freshman Dalton Blake (81).

Roster for 2014 Set and Bears Ready to Open Season

The Butler Golf team has been set with 14 players for 2014. The team will open with an exhibition Thursday in the annual Dixie Shootout at Bobby Nichols at 12pm.  The season will officially get underway Friday in the Charger Classic at Heritage Hill at 8am Friday.

The roster this year will be anchored by returning All-State Senior Chase Wathen.  Other Seniors will be Tanner Thompson, Jacob Bray and newcomer Austin Davis. Juniors Bradley Davis and Jackson Burns return along with the Junior additions of Jonah Puckett and Alex Cahill.  The Sophomores Josh Tingle and Darren McCluskey both return.  The deep freshmen class consists of Falls City Runner Up Dalton Blake, Chase Daub, Coby Johnson and Ethan Snawder.
